Gonda: Gonda Police have solved a high-value jewellery theft case within hours of its registration, arresting a woman and her alleged accomplice after an investigation revealed that the theft had allegedly been orchestrated from within the victim’s own household.
According to police, Lav Kush, a resident of Bishunapur Bazaar, lodged a complaint on the night of July 19, alleging that unidentified thieves had broken into his house, forced open three storage boxes and stolen gold and silver jewellery.
Following the registration of the case, Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal directed a special investigation team to probe the incident. During the inquiry, police inspected the crime scene and questioned family members. Officers said the statements and conduct of the complainant’s wife, Poonam Kasaudhan, appeared suspicious.
Police said that during questioning by a woman police officer, Poonam allegedly confessed that she had conspired with Vikas Kasaudhan, her maternal aunt’s son, with whom she was allegedly in a relationship. According to investigators, the two had planned to leave together and allegedly decided to steal jewellery and cash from the house to finance their plan.
Investigators alleged that on the night of July 19–20, Poonam contacted Vikas by mobile phone and allowed him into the house. The two allegedly removed gold and silver ornaments, cash and mobile phones from the boxes and handed the valuables to Vikas.
Police further alleged that to make the incident appear as a genuine burglary, Poonam scattered household items, disturbed the contents of cupboards and boxes, hid beneath a bed and pretended to have been rendered unconscious. She later claimed that nine to ten unidentified intruders had entered the house, assaulted her and fled with the valuables.
Acting on information provided during the investigation, police arrested Vikas Kasaudhan from Bishunapur and recovered the allegedly stolen property from his possession. The recovered items include approximately 19.61 grams of gold jewellery, 1.585 kilograms of silver ornaments, ₹50,000 in cash, and two Android mobile phones.
Police have arrested both accused and initiated legal proceedings under the relevant provisions of law. They have been produced before the court, and further investigation into the case is underway. Police noted that the allegations remain subject to judicial proceedings and determination by the court.
