DIG Ashok Kumar Leads Tree Plantation Drive in Gonda Under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign

Gonda: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Devipatan Range, Ashok Kumar, led a tree plantation drive at the Devipatan Range Office in Gonda as part of the Uttar Pradesh Government’s Vriksharopan Mahabhiyan-2026 and the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign.

The programme was organised to promote environmental conservation, increase public awareness and encourage community participation in creating a greener and more sustainable Uttar Pradesh.

Planting a sapling in the office premises, DIG Ashok Kumar emphasised the vital role of trees in maintaining ecological balance and combating the growing challenges of pollution and climate change. He said tree plantation is one of the most effective ways to protect the environment and secure a healthier future for coming generations.

Addressing officers and staff present on the occasion, the DIG stressed that planting saplings alone is not enough. He underlined the importance of ensuring their regular watering, protection and proper care until they grow into mature trees. He said the true success of the campaign lies in the survival and healthy growth of every sapling planted.

He also urged police personnel to actively participate in the afforestation drive by planting trees themselves and motivating their families, colleagues and members of the public to join the environmental movement. “A tree planted today will become a priceless legacy for future generations, providing clean air, a greener environment and a safer future,” he said.

The programme was attended by Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal, the Divisional Forest Officer, Gonda, and other officials and personnel from the Police and Forest Departments.

The plantation drive formed part of the state’s large-scale afforestation initiative aimed at expanding green cover, promoting environmental sustainability and encouraging collective responsibility towards nature conservation.
