Lucknow: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow, organized a program on June 21 to commemorate the 12th International Day of Yoga. The event was conducted under the guidance and patronage of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal, and jointly organized by the Department of Yoga and the Yoga Wellness Centre, BBAU. Distinguished dignitaries present on the occasion included Prof. Sanatan Nayak, Registrar Dr. Ashwini Kumar Singh, IQAC Director Prof. Shilpi Verma, Head of the Department of Yoga Dr. Deepeshwar Singh, and Dr. Sharad Sonkar.
On the occasion of the 12th International Day of Yoga, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal extended his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to the entire university community, including students, teachers, officers, and staff members. He stated that yoga is an ancient and glorious cultural heritage of India, which has established itself globally as an effective medium for human well-being. He emphasized that yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a foundation for a healthy body, a peaceful mind, and a balanced life.
Prof. Mittal further noted that in the present era of increasing stress, irregular lifestyles, and health-related challenges, yoga has emerged as an effective solution. Regular practice of yoga plays a significant role in enhancing concentration, efficiency, and mental resilience. He urged everyone to make yoga an integral part of their daily lives rather than limiting it to a single day and to contribute towards building a healthy, happy, and prosperous society. He expressed confidence that yoga can bring positive change at both individual and societal levels and help realize the vision of a “Healthy India.”
Prof. Sanatan Nayak remarked that yoga is not merely a system of exercise but a comprehensive way of life that promotes balance, health, and positivity. He said that regular yoga practice establishes harmony among the body, mind, and soul, fostering discipline, confidence, and balance in life. Yoga helps reduce stress, maintain mental peace, and inspires healthy living. He encouraged everyone to embrace yoga in their daily routine and stated that through yoga, we can not only keep ourselves healthy but also contribute significantly to building an aware, healthy, and empowered society.
Dr. Deepeshwar Singh, Head of the Department of Yoga, informed participants about the importance of yoga and various asanas. He stated that yoga is the foundation of a healthy and balanced life. Regular practice improves physical health, promotes mental peace, and develops positivity in life. He highlighted that different yogic postures help strengthen the body, enhance concentration, and reduce stress. He also emphasized that yoga plays a crucial role in the holistic development of an individual’s personality and urged everyone to incorporate yoga into their daily routine and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

On this occasion, all participants practiced various yoga postures, pranayama, and meditation under the Common Yoga Protocol. Guided by yoga experts, participants enthusiastically took part in the session and embraced the message of a healthy and balanced life through yoga.
Following the yoga session, young children presented an attractive Yoga Dance Performance. Through their performance, they beautifully showcased various yoga postures and mudras while conveying the significance of yoga. Their enthusiasm, energy, and captivating presentation won the hearts of the audience and became a special highlight of the event.
During the program, children who had participated in the yoga workshop were awarded certificates in recognition of their involvement. Over the past month, the university organized various yoga-related programs, workshops, awareness campaigns, and practice sessions, and celebrated the entire initiative as a “Yoga Mahotsav.”
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Deepeshwar Singh. Among those present were Prof. B.C. Yadav, Dr. Sunil Goria, Dr. Manoj Kumar Dadwal, Dr. Narendra Singh, along with other faculty members, research scholars, yoga practitioners, parents, and a large number of students.
