Gonda: A week-long yoga awareness and wellness programme was inaugurated in Gonda on Monday to mark the upcoming 12th International Yoga Day. The initiative, organized by the AYUSH Department at Chetna Park in Civil Lines, aims to promote the benefits of yoga and encourage citizens to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
The programme was jointly inaugurated by Chief Development Officer Dayanand Prasad and Additional District Magistrate Alok Kumar.
Addressing the gathering, Dayanand Prasad described yoga as an invaluable heritage of Indian culture that contributes significantly to physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. He urged citizens to incorporate regular yoga practice into their daily routines, emphasizing its role in maintaining overall health and enhancing quality of life.
Additional District Magistrate Alok Kumar highlighted yoga’s importance in modern society, stating that it teaches the art of living a stress-free and balanced life. He noted that in today’s fast-paced environment, the relevance of yoga has increased considerably as people seek ways to improve their mental and physical health.
During the session, AYUSH Department yoga instructor Anjani Dubey guided participants through various yoga postures, pranayama exercises, and meditation techniques. Participants enthusiastically took part in the yoga practice, demonstrating growing awareness about the importance of preventive healthcare and fitness.

The inaugural event witnessed participation from officials and employees of various government departments, as well as a large contingent of students and faculty members from SCPM College of Ayurveda. Local residents, youth groups, and representatives of social organizations also joined the programme in significant numbers.
Officials from the AYUSH Department said that a series of yoga awareness campaigns, mass yoga sessions, and health-related activities will be conducted at different locations across the district throughout the week leading up to International Yoga Day on June 21.
The department stated that the objective is to connect more people with the practice of yoga and contribute to the creation of a healthier, disease-free society. Through sustained public participation and awareness efforts, the administration hopes to strengthen the message of holistic wellness and preventive healthcare among citizens.
The week-long programme forms part of nationwide celebrations leading up to International Yoga Day, which is observed annually on June 21 and has become a global movement promoting health, harmony, and well-being through the ancient Indian practice of yoga.
