Lucknow: In a major enforcement drive aimed at enhancing passenger safety, particularly for women commuters, Lucknow Police conducted a citywide checking campaign targeting auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws. During the operation, authorities inspected 2,201 e-rickshaws and took action against hundreds of vehicles found violating traffic and operational regulations.
According to police officials, a total of 117 e-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws were seized, while 434 vehicles were issued challans for various violations.
The intensified campaign comes in the wake of recent incidents involving women passengers in public transport vehicles, prompting police to strengthen monitoring and enforcement measures across the city.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Babloo Kumar said special teams were deployed at key transportation hubs and busy intersections throughout Lucknow. Checking operations were carried out in several prominent locations, including Mohanlalganj, Gosainganj, Charbagh Railway Station, Alambagh Bus Terminal, Hazratganj, Polytechnic Chauraha, Kamta, Gomti Nagar Railway Station, Dubagga, Chowk, and Aminabad.
During the drive, officers verified vehicle documents, driver credentials, registration details, and compliance with traffic and safety regulations. Police also monitored suspicious activities and checked whether vehicles were operating within authorized limits.
Zone-wise enforcement figures revealed significant action across the city. In the Western Zone, police issued 190 challans and seized 44 vehicles. The Central Zone recorded 100 challans and 26 vehicle seizures, while the Southern Zone saw 78 challans and 28 vehicles impounded.

In the Eastern Zone, authorities issued 44 challans and seized five vehicles, whereas the Northern Zone reported 22 challans along with the seizure of 14 autos and e-rickshaws.
Senior police officials stated that such special drives will continue in the coming weeks to improve road safety, ensure compliance with transport regulations, and provide a safer travel environment for passengers. The crackdown is also intended to deter unauthorized operations, traffic violations, and misconduct by drivers.
Police have urged e-rickshaw and auto-rickshaw operators to follow traffic rules, maintain valid documentation, and adhere to safety norms to avoid penalties and enforcement action.
The latest operation reflects Lucknow Police’s broader efforts to tighten oversight of public transport services and strengthen security measures at major transit points across the city.
