Bareilly: To mark World Environment Day 2026, the Department of Ancient History and Culture at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, organized a tree plantation programme dedicated to environmental conservation, green awareness and sustainable development.
The initiative was conducted under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh, with faculty members, staff and students actively participating in the event. As part of the programme, a variety of fruit-bearing, shade-giving and medicinal saplings were planted across the department premises. Participants also pledged to ensure the protection and nurturing of the newly planted trees.
Speaking on the occasion, university representatives emphasized that trees are not only invaluable gifts of nature but also vital sources of oxygen, environmental balance, medicine, fruits and shelter. They highlighted the growing challenges posed by pollution, climate change and the depletion of natural resources, noting that tree plantation remains one of the most effective measures for environmental protection.
The programme underscored the importance of planting diverse species, particularly fruit-bearing and medicinal trees, to enhance biodiversity and create a healthier and more sustainable environment for future generations.

Among those present were Dean Prof. Vijay Bahadur Singh Yadav, Head of Department Dr. Priya Saxena, Dr. Pawan Kumar Singh, Dr. Pinky Gupta, Dr. Alok Kumar, Dr. Mohit Mishra, Dr. Anoop Ranjan, Dr. Pankaj Sharma, and staff members Hori Lal, Sameer, Satendra, and Munish, along with several students and departmental personnel.
The event concluded with a collective pledge by all participants to plant more trees, ensure their regular care and maintenance, and spread awareness about environmental conservation within society.
