Lucknow: As part of a three-day training and exposure visit program held from July 22 to 24, 2026, for chairpersons of various municipal bodies, Nagar Panchayat presidents, and officials from Uttarakhand, a delegation visited the Bharwara Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Lucknow on Wednesday. The program was organized by the Urban Training and Research Institute (UTRI).
During the visit, the delegation was briefed in detail on the operational mechanism of the Bharwara STP, its state-of-the-art sewage treatment process, operation and maintenance systems, and the system for reusing treated water. The officials learned how scientific sewage treatment is carried out in compliance with environmental standards and how the reuse of treated water plays a crucial role in water conservation and sustainable development.
Parth Sarathi Nath, the Plant In-charge at Bharwara STP, guided the delegation through the plant’s various units and provided detailed information on the treatment process, quality monitoring systems, modern technologies, and adherence to environmental standards. The delegation appreciated the technologies and operational systems employed at the plant and engaged in detailed discussions regarding effective wastewater management, pollution control, and the conservation of water resources in urban areas.
Rajesh Mathpal, Project Director at Suez India, stated, “The Bharwara STP is not merely a center for sewage treatment but an excellent example of sustainable water management. Reusing treated water significantly contributes to environmental conservation while reducing the strain on natural water sources. Such exposure visits serve as an effective medium for the exchange of knowledge and experience among officials from different states, thereby promoting modern and sustainable urban water management systems across the country.”
At the conclusion of the program, the delegation inspected various sections of the STP and gained insights into the technical aspects of sewage management and the effective utilization of treated water. The participants stated that this study tour provided them with valuable experience in developing better and modern sewage management systems in their respective urban local bodies.
Chairpersons, Nagar Panchayat presidents, councilors, sanitation inspectors, Swachh Bharat Mission experts, environmental supervisors, and officials from various urban local bodies across different districts of Uttarakhand participated in this exposure visit.
