MoU between All India Institute of Ayurveda and CSIR-CIMAP to Strengthen Evidence-Based approach for AYUSH based Medicine.

Lucknow: A meeting was held in CSIR-CIMAP, Lucknow to formulate a Memorandum of Understanding between the All India Institute of Ayurveda(AIIA), New Delhi, Ministry of AYUSH, and CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP) for collaborative research in Ayurveda.

Key Areas of Collaboration under the MoU

1. Joint Research & Development: The collaboration will focus on “Ayurveda as a whole” approach, integrating traditional knowledge with modern scientific validation.
2. Product Development & Validation:
Development and scientific validation of Ayurvedic formulations developed by CSIR-CIMAP. e.g Validation of Hydro alcoholic extract: Joint studies for therapeutic applications.
3. Clinical & Preclinical Studies:
Preclinical trials to be conducted by CSIR-CIMAP and clinical trials to be led by AIIA, New Delhi for herbal for clinical trials.
Disease focus areas: Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease/Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Liver Disease, Gut-Liver disorders, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Proposed clinical trials to include evaluation of immunomodulatory parameters and NFLD-related markers.
4.Capacity Building & Technology Development
Establishment of a Joint Committee for monitoring and oversight of joint trials post signing of MoU.
Multiplication of RET (Rare, Endangered and threatened) using advanced Tissue culture methods and Captive Cultivation”.
CRMs Commercialization: Certified Reference Materials of Indian origin developed by CSIR-CIMAP, including Ashwagandha and Andrographis.

Conservation: Focus on plants from the Vindhyachal region.
Student Exchange Program: Capacity building through the student exchange program.
This MoU aims to synergize the clinical expertise of AIIA with the phytochemical and preclinical research strengths of CSIR-CIMAP to generate scientific evidence for Ayurvedic formulations, promote cultivation of medicinal plants, and develop quality standards for global acceptance of Ayurveda.
