Lucknow: The Nigoha Police Station has arrested a man accused of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide following the death of his wife in the Nigoha area of Lucknow.
According to police officials, on May 15, police received information that a woman had allegedly died by suicide in Kanta Karaudi village. Upon reaching the spot, investigators found that Amisha Yadav, aged around 29, had allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan inside her room using a dupatta. The body was sent for post-mortem examination after legal formalities were completed.
On May 17, the deceased woman’s brother Dhirendra Vikram Raj Singh lodged a complaint alleging that Amisha had married Vikrant Yadav through a court marriage in 2022 after a love relationship. He alleged that after marriage, the husband, along with his parents, began mentally harassing her over dowry demands and frequently threatened that she would have to spend her life at her parental home if demands were not fulfilled.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Dowry Prohibition Act against Vikrant Yadav, his father Gajendra Singh, and mother Kavita, residents of Baghpat district.
Police said the investigation is being supervised by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mohanlalganj. Acting on instructions from senior officers, the Nigoha police team arrested Vikrant Yadav on May 19 and produced him before the court before sending him to Lucknow District Jail.
During questioning, the accused stated that he has been serving in the Indian Army since 2018 and is currently posted in Pune. He claimed that he met the deceased through the social media platform Shaadi.com in 2020-21, and the two later married in 2022 after developing a relationship. According to him, the couple initially lived peacefully, but later developed differences, due to which the woman had been staying at her parental home for nearly three years.
