Apollomedics Introduces Scar-Free Heart Surgery Technique in Lucknow

Lucknow: In a significant advancement in cardiac care, Apollomedics Super Speciality Hospital has introduced a cutting-edge technique that allows heart surgeries to be performed without opening the chest, marking a major shift from conventional procedures.

Led by senior consultant Dr. Rahul Bhushan, the cardiothoracic and vascular surgery team has successfully conducted multiple surgeries using minimally invasive endoscopic methods. Instead of making a large incision or cutting through the chest bone, surgeons use small ports and high-definition cameras to perform precise procedures inside the heart.

The technique has been used to treat congenital heart conditions such as Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), a condition where a hole exists between the upper chambers of the heart. If left untreated, ASD can lead to serious complications over time.

Hospital authorities claim that this is the first time in Uttar Pradesh that such endoscopic cardiac surgeries have been performed consecutively. The approach is part of the growing adoption of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS), which offers several advantages over traditional open-heart surgery.

Unlike conventional procedures that require cutting the sternum and leave significant scars, this advanced method minimizes physical trauma. Surgeons rely on high-definition imaging to operate with enhanced precision, reducing pain, complications, and recovery time for patients.

According to doctors, the outcomes have been highly encouraging. Patients who underwent the procedure experienced minimal discomfort and were ready for discharge as early as the next day. The preservation of bones and muscles significantly lowers post-operative risks and speeds up recovery.

Dr. Rahul Bhushan noted that the technique bridges the gap between traditional surgery and expensive robotic procedures. While robotic cardiac surgery offers high precision, it often remains unaffordable for many patients. The endoscopic method, he said, delivers comparable accuracy at less than half the cost, making advanced care more accessible.

Echoing this vision, Dr. Mayank Somani, MD and CEO of Apollomedics, stated that the hospital aims to provide world-class cardiac treatment within Lucknow, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the state.

The initiative reflects a broader transformation in the healthcare ecosystem, focusing not only on surgical success but also on faster recovery and improved quality of life. With continued expansion of its advanced cardiac program, Apollomedics is positioning itself at the forefront of patient-centric, minimally invasive healthcare solutions.
