Lucknow: The CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow, on Friday celebrated its 67th Foundation Day with enthusiasm and renewed commitment, marking more than six decades of scientific excellence and national contribution.
The event brought together eminent scientists, dignitaries, and researchers, reflecting on the institute’s journey and its growing impact in medicinal and aromatic plant research and innovation.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by an overview of the event presented by Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Scientist-G.
Dr. Anil Kumar Tripathi, Director, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Mohali and Former Director, CSIR-CIMAP, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, delivering an insightful Foundation Day lecture titled “Saga of Human Civilisation through Inquiry, Invention and Innovation.” He appreciated CIMAP’s impactful work, particularly in remote regions, and recalled his enriching interactions with farmers as a deeply rewarding experience.
He noted that the institute’s sustained efforts have significantly enhanced farmers’ livelihoods, earning national recognition, including the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar. Emphasizing the transformative power of science, he highlighted the importance of moving beyond inquiry to innovation and invention, aligning with the vision of Viksit Bharat.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. Jyoti Yadav, Head, RAB, CSIR, underscored the vital role of scientific institutions in driving national development, innovation, and self-reliance.
Earlier in his welcome address, Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director, CSIR-CIMAP, highlighted the institute’s achievements in cutting-edge research, farmer outreach, and its pivotal role in national initiatives such as the Aroma Mission.
He emphasized the need to preserve and build upon the institute’s rich legacy, calling for a collective vision to further strengthen CIMAP’s contributions in the years ahead.

A major highlight of the function was the exchange of key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), reinforcing CIMAP’s commitment to collaborative research and industry partnerships. CSIR-CIMAP entered into a significant research collaboration with the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, New Delhi, to undertake stability and shelf-life studies of selected homoeopathic medicines in accordance with ICH Q1A (R2) guidelines.
In another industry-driven initiative, an MoU was signed between Vimla and Company and CSIR-CIMAP under the TBIC platform for the commercialization of a herbal floor cleaner, “Clean Germ,” promoting eco-friendly and indigenous solutions.
The occasion also witnessed the release of CIMAP Aus-Vigyan Ank-9, 2026, showcasing recent scientific advancements and outreach efforts.
The ceremony concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Arvind Singh Negi, Scientist-G, while the proceedings were efficiently conducted by Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Scientist-G, and Dr. Sumya Pathak, Scientist-D, CSIR-CIMAP.
The institute remained open to farmers, students, and the general public, fostering greater outreach and engagement with society.
