Lucknow: Renowned devotional singer Anup Jalota and singer Surabhi Ranjan will be honoured with the Naushad Samman during the upcoming Avadh Mela, to be held on the evening of March 22 at the Army Sports Complex in Lucknow. The cultural event is being organized by the Hunar Creation and Craft Association in two phases and will be attended by senior military officers and thousands of soldiers.
Along with the awards ceremony, several young performers will be honoured with the Shaan-e-Avadh Award. The list of awardees includes musical duo Sameer–Deepali, singer Samarjit Randhawa, Tirsha Rakshit, Bisroop Banerjee, Srishti Mukherjee, Deepanshi Yadav, and drummer Tanmay Mukherjee, who will also present live performances for the soldiers.
The event is being organized with the support of the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi and the state Tourism Department, following a special invitation from the Indian Army. All regiments under the Indian Army Central Command have been invited to attend the programme along with their families. Regimental food stalls will also be set up as part of the fair.
During the evening, Anup Jalota will perform a selection of ghazals and bhajans, while other artists will present a mix of rock, classical fusion, and Sufi music. About 5,000 seats are expected to be arranged for the audience.
Organizers noted that the association has previously honoured several distinguished artists, including Hariharan, Amjad Ali Khan, Shivkumar Sharma, Hema Malini, Rekha Bhardwaj, Sonu Nigam, Talat Aziz, Mithoon Sharma and Pratibha Singh Baghel through similar cultural initiatives aimed at promoting arts, handicrafts, and awareness of Indian culture among younger generations.
The Avadh Mela promises to be an evening of music, culture, and celebration dedicated to the nation’s soldiers.
