Awareness Program Organized at Rural Health Training Center, Juggaur on World Obesity Day

Lucknow: On the occasion of World Obesity Day, the Department of Community Medicine at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Lucknow organized an awareness program at the Rural Health Training Center (RHTC), Juggaur. The initiative aimed to educate the community about the rising prevalence of obesity and its associated health risks.

The program was conducted under the overall guidance of Dr. C. M. Singh, Director, RMLIMS, and witnessed the esteemed presence of Prof. Dr. Arvind Kumar Singh, Medical Superintendent, along with faculty members Dr. Sumit Dixit, Dr. Vinita Shukla, Dr. Anamika Chandra, Dr. Arshi Ansari, and Dr. Shikhar.

The event began with a presentation by Dr. S. D. Kandpal, Head of Community Medicine, who shared data from NFHS-5, highlighting that obesity affects approximately 24% of women and 22.9% of men in India. He emphasized preventive measures such as a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Mridu, Additional Professor, Department of Medicine, RMLIMS, delivered a lecture on adopting a healthy lifestyle to prevent obesity, focusing on the importance of nutritious diets, daily exercise, reduced screen time, and structured daily routines.

Interns, junior residents, and medical social workers performed an engaging street play, educating the community on obesity-related issues in a simple and interactive manner. The play highlighted childhood obesity, PCOD in women, unhealthy eating habits, causes of obesity, importance of balanced nutrition, and regular exercise, as well as potential complications such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.

At the conclusion of the program, participants were honored with certificates of participation. The successful event was organized under the guidance of Dr. Piyush Kariwala, with support from faculty members, residents, interns, medical social workers, and staff.

The program effectively encouraged the local community to adopt a healthy lifestyle, maintain a balanced diet, and engage in regular physical activity, with participants actively engaging and appreciating the health messages shared.
