Uttarakhand Mahaparishad Celebrates Traditional Baithki and Khadi Holi in Lucknow

Lucknow: The Uttarakhand Mahaparishad organised a grand and culturally vibrant Holi celebration, March 1, 2026, at its premises in Kurmanchal Nagar. Continuing its annual tradition, the Mahaparishad hosted an elaborate Baithki and Khadi Holi festival featuring both women and men holiyars, beginning at 3:00 pm at the Uttarakhand Mahaparishad Bhawan.

The Holi festival, held under the aegis of the Mahaparishad, was marked by enthusiasm, devotion and a deep sense of cultural pride. The event beautifully reflected the rich folk traditions of Uttarakhand and brought together members of the community in a spirit of unity and joy.

Women holiyars from various localities including Kalyanpur, Pantnagar, Vikasnagar, Indiranagar, Telibagh, Sugamau, Mahanagar and Rajajipuram participated with great fervour. Their melodious and powerful renditions of traditional Baithki and Khadi Holi songs captivated the audience. Accompanied by the rhythmic beats of dhol and damau, the atmosphere resonated with colours, devotion and festive cheer.

Traditional Holi songs such as “Jogi Aayo Shahar Mein Vyopari,” “Shiv Ke Man Mahi Base Kashi,” “Siddhi Ko Data Vighna Vinashak,” and “Rang Mein Holi Kaise Khelungi Savariya Ke Sang” echoed throughout the Mahaparishad premises, transforming it into a vibrant symbol of culture, harmony and communal bonding. From senior citizens to youth and children, everyone joined wholeheartedly in the celebrations, making the event truly intergenerational.

The programme offered a vivid glimpse into the rural and remote traditions of Uttarakhand, recreating the heartfelt joy and simplicity of Holi as celebrated in the hill regions. Both male and female holiyars presented soulful performances that preserved the authenticity of the folk style and conveyed the emotional depth associated with the festival.

Among those present were Aruna Upadhyay, Haritima Pant, Shashi Joshi, Sushila Negi, Pushpa Vaishnav, Kamla Chufal, Meena Adhikari, Poonam Kanwal, Savita Bisht, Deepa Kalakoti, Hema Bisht, Manju Pandey, Saroj Khulbe, Pushpa Gailakoti, Sundar Pal Singh Bisht, Kishore Kathori, Pan Singh, Darshan Singh Parihar, C.M. Joshi and Bhuvan Pathak. All participants reaffirmed their commitment to preserving Uttarakhand’s rich folk heritage and conveyed the message of “Apni Boli – Apni Holi – Apni Sanskriti” (Our Language – Our Holi – Our Culture).

The celebration was not merely a festival of colours but also a meaningful effort to conserve and promote Uttarakhand’s cultural legacy among the younger generation. The Mahaparishad emphasised that such gatherings strengthen community bonds and ensure that traditional art forms continue to thrive outside their native regions.

Several office-bearers of the Uttarakhand Mahaparishad were present at the event, including Convenor Diwan Singh Adhikari, President Harish Chandra Pant, Senior Vice President Mangal Singh Rawat, Bhuvan Patwal, Rajendra Singh Bisht, Suresh Pandey, General Secretary Bharat Singh Bisht, Secretary Rajesh Bisht, Cultural Secretary Mahendra Singh Gailakoti, Kamal Joshi, Vijay Bisht, Pankaj Kharkwal, Suresh Joshi, Ramesh Chandra Singh Adhikari, Puran Bhadola and Sandeep, among others.

On the occasion, President Harish Chandra Pant extended Holi greetings and best wishes to holiyars who had come from Kurmanchal Nagar, Kalyanpur, Pantnagar, Telibagh, Neelmatha, Indira Nagar, Khargapur, Bharat Nagar, Mayapuri, PGI, Takrohi and Gomti Nagar areas.

The grand Holi celebration concluded on a high note, leaving participants with cherished memories and a renewed resolve to keep Uttarakhand’s cultural traditions alive in Lucknow.
