New Delhi: President of India Droupadi Murmu on Thursday launched the #SkillTheNation AI Challenge under the SOAR (Skilling for AI Readiness) initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). The launch took place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre, where the President also virtually inaugurated the IGNOU Regional Centre and Skill Centre at Rairangpur in Odisha.
Addressing the gathering, the President said that Artificial Intelligence is reshaping economies and societies across the world, transforming learning systems, workplaces, access to services, and solutions to global challenges. She emphasized that for a young nation like India, AI is not merely a technology but a powerful opportunity for positive and inclusive change.

President Murmu underlined that India’s approach to technology has always focused on empowering people, promoting inclusion, and expanding opportunities for all. She stressed that AI should be used to bridge social, economic, and technological divides, ensuring its benefits reach people of all ages and backgrounds, particularly those from marginalized communities.
Expressing happiness over students preparing for an AI-driven future, the President urged them to use their knowledge and technological skills in the service of society, to solve real-world problems and empower others. She also appreciated Members of Parliament who have completed AI learning modules, calling it an example of leadership through continuous learning.

Highlighting AI’s role as a key growth driver for the Indian economy, President Murmu said it will significantly contribute to GDP growth, employment generation, and productivity in the coming decade. She noted that skills such as data science, AI engineering, and data analytics will be critical in building India’s AI talent pool.
She further stated that the government, in collaboration with industry, academia, and institutions, is working to ensure that India not only adopts advanced technologies but also shapes a responsible and ethical AI future. Calling for collective commitment, the President urged stakeholders to work together to build a developed, inclusive, and tech-driven India, aligned with the National Education Policy and the vision of making India a knowledge superpower.
The event, organised by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, reflects the Government of India’s continued commitment to preparing the country’s workforce for an AI-driven future.
