Mumbai: A decisive moment is unfolding for the Indian entertainment industry as Excel Entertainment, founded by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, moves towards a landmark partnership with global giant Universal Music Group (International). The deal is being seen as a strategic step to take Indian stories, music, and content to a wider global audience.
Discussions between the two companies have been underway for several months. Universal Music Group has been keen to deepen its footprint in India’s fast-growing content market, while Excel views the alliance as aligned with its long-term vision of expanding production scale and global reach.

The partnership will be based on a minority stake, ensuring that creative control and ownership remain firmly with Excel Entertainment. All key decisions related to films and content will continue to be driven by the Indian studio.

The official announcement is expected at a grand press conference. Coinciding with Excel’s 25-year journey, the deal could redefine how Indian entertainment engages with the global market.
