Agra: Calling upon the youth to adopt sports as a way of life, Vice President of India C.P. Radhakrishnan said that discipline should be treated as one’s greatest strength. He was addressing athletes and spectators at the Third MP Sports Festival–2025, organised at the Eklavya Sports Stadium in Agra under the leadership of the Yogi Adityanath government to strengthen and expand sports culture in Uttar Pradesh.
The Vice President was the chief guest at the event. Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay welcomed him as the state guest on behalf of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Upon reaching the stadium, the Vice President participated in plantation under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. The programme began with floral tribute to the statue of Eklavya followed by the national anthem.
Spectacular demonstrations of Mallakhamb, sword fighting and cultural dances by players enthralled the audience. The Vice President later felicitated winners of various sports by presenting trophies.
In his address, Vice President Radhakrishnan said sports are not merely a medium of competition but a strong foundation for character building, discipline, patience and team spirit. He emphasised that a drug-free youth forms the backbone of a strong and developed nation, adding that sports serve as the most effective shield against substance abuse.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Fit India Movement and Khelo India initiative, he said these programmes have brought a positive change in the country’s outlook towards sports, extending sports culture from metros to rural and semi-urban areas. He also highlighted India’s impressive performance in international events, including the Paralympics, as a result of visionary sports policies, scientific training and the dedication of young athletes.
Union Minister Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel informed that 34 sports disciplines were included in the MP Sports Festival, with over 62,000 players registering across men’s and women’s categories, ensuring wide participation.
The Vice President was received at the Agra Technical Airport by Minister Yogendra Upadhyay, who also saw him off after the programme. Calling the Vice President’s visit a matter of pride, the minister said the Yogi government remains committed to empowering youth through sports, education and values. He added that events like the MP Sports Festival not only provide a platform for talent but also inspire a disciplined and healthy lifestyle among the youth.
