Germanpreet to Lead SG Pipers Men’s Team; Navneet Retains Captaincy for Women in HIL Season 2

New Delhi | In a clear signal of continuity and confidence, SG Pipers have announced their captains for Season 2 of the Hockey India League (HIL), entrusting leadership to two of India’s most dynamic hockey talents. India’s star fullback Germanpreet Singh has been named captain of the SG Pipers men’s team, with Australian midfielder K. Willott appointed as vice-captain. For the women’s side, prolific Indian striker Navneet Kaur will once again wear the captain’s armband, while Caitlin Nobbs, daughter of former India men’s coach Michael Nobbs, takes charge as vice-captain.

Strong Leadership at the Helm

Germanpreet, who played a pivotal role in India’s title-winning campaign at the 2025 Men’s Asia Cup in Rajgir, had delivered some of the most impactful performances for SG Pipers last season. His elevation to captaincy is seen as a natural progression of his growing stature within Indian hockey.

Vice-captain Willott, who joins the league after guiding Hockey Club Melbourne to the Hockey One championship, brings valuable international experience and midfield stability.

On the women’s side, Navneet Kaur continues her leadership role after a standout season marked by decisive goals and relentless attacking play. Nobbs, known for her strong defensive acumen and calm decision-making, joins the leadership group fresh from helping Perth Thundersticks clinch the Hockey One title this past Sunday.

Captains React

Expressing gratitude, Olympic bronze medallist Germanpreet said:
“I thank the coaches and management for this responsibility. With a solid mix of junior and senior players, we are ready to build a formidable team and aim to bring the title home.”

Navneet Kaur, reaffirmed as captain, shared her appreciation:
“I’m grateful for the continued trust placed in me. We have carefully planned for this season with head coach Sophie and assistant coach Helen Mary. The team is better prepared, and I’m confident our efforts will reflect in our performance.”

Strengthened Squads Ahead of a Competitive Season

SG Pipers have reinforced both squads ahead of the upcoming season. The men’s team has brought back last season’s title-winning captain Rupinder Pal Singh to solidify the defensive line, while the women’s team has gained strength with the inclusion of Udita.

During the mini auction, Hockey Director and Padma Bhushan awardee PR Sreejesh, alongside coaches Tim Odenaeller and Sophie Gierts, collaborated with senior players to craft two competitive squads capable of challenging for the HIL titles.

League Dates Announced

The Women’s HIL will begin on December 28, followed by the Men’s HIL from January 3, setting the stage for an exhilarating start to the new year.

With seasoned international stars, rising talents, and well-defined leadership groups, SG Pipers enter Season 2 with renewed determination and a clear focus on high performance, resilience, and accountability—aiming to leave a strong mark on the 2025 Hockey India League.
