Stresses Nutrition, Lifestyle and Ethical Medical Practice for Better Eye Health
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel inaugurated the new centre of Dr. Agarwal Eye Hospital in Gomti Nagar, calling it a significant addition to the city’s expanding healthcare infrastructure. Addressing the gathering after the inauguration, the Governor underlined that eye health must be treated as a priority, describing the eyes as “the most sensitive and indispensable organ” requiring constant care and protection.
Rising Eye Problems Among Children a Concern
Expressing concern over the increasing number of children developing refractive errors, Governor Patel urged parents to cultivate healthy food habits at home. “If children are given nutritious meals daily, their eye health will improve. Good eating habits begin with the family,” she said. She added that children naturally follow what they observe at home: “If we adopt a healthy routine and balanced diet, our children will emulate us.”
Pollution, Lifestyle Diseases and the Growing Hospital Burden
The Governor highlighted environmental pollution as a worsening threat to eye health. “Pollution is affecting not only the eyes but also the kidneys, heart and several organs. Hospitals are increasing because lifestyle disorders are increasing,” she said. Poor diet, addictions and erratic routines, she noted, are the leading contributors to the spike in chronic illnesses.
Calling upon society to guide today’s youth towards healthier habits, she said awareness should begin early, not after the age of 50 or 60. Emphasising the importance of preventive healthcare, Governor Patel advised integrating yoga and exercise into daily life. “A healthy life begins at home,” she noted, urging families to prioritise fresh vegetables, balanced meals and physical activity.
Ethical Medical Practice: “Good Treatment is the Best Branding”
Speaking on medical ethics, Governor Patel said that the duty of a doctor does not end with treatment alone. “A doctor’s dharma is not only to treat but to provide safe and better care to every patient,” she said. In a time when counterfeit materials and unethical practices pose risks, she urged doctors to remain vigilant and uphold integrity.

Sharing her experiences from Gujarat, she recalled visiting hospitals, interacting with children, arranging their health check-ups and ensuring necessary medicines were provided. “Good treatment is the best branding for any doctor or hospital. When patients recover, they themselves build the reputation of the institution,” she stated.
A New Centre of Hope
Governor Patel expressed happiness at the inauguration of the new Dr. Agarwal Eye Hospital centre and said she hoped it would bring “new light and improved health to countless people in the coming years.”
Senior officials from the Dr. Agarwal Eye Hospitals group—including Chief Business Officer Prof. Dr. Ashar Agarwal, Regional Clinical Head Dr. Kaladevi Satish, and Regional Medical Head Dr. Nirav Shah—were present at the ceremony, along with several distinguished guests.
The inauguration marked a significant step forward in expanding advanced ophthalmic services in Lucknow, reinforcing the city’s growing prominence as a regional healthcare hub.
