Lucknow: In preparation for the upcoming Chhath Puja, Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar conducted a surprise inspection of major ghats across Lucknow. The inspection covered prominent sites including Laxman Mela Ghat, Jhulelal Vatika Ghat, Sanjhiyaghat, and Kudia Ghat, where arrangements for cleanliness, lighting, and safety are being finalized.
Accompanied by the Chief Engineer (RR), zonal officers, engineers from the engineering department, and other municipal officials, the Commissioner assessed sanitation, waste management, and beautification work at the ghats. He instructed officials to ensure proper barricading, trimming of trees and grass, and completion of all cleaning activities on time so that devotees face no inconvenience.
Kumar emphasized that safety and cleanliness during the festival must remain the top priority. He directed that nets be placed at drains flowing into the Gomti River to prevent garbage from entering the water, while workers on boats should continuously remove floating waste. Adequate lighting, dustbins, clean drinking water, and toilet facilities must be ensured at all ghats, he added.
Highlighting the importance of maintaining the river’s sanctity, the Commissioner appealed to citizens not to immerse idols or ritual waste in the Gomti River, stating, “Keeping the river clean is our collective responsibility. Polluting the river harms both the environment and public health.” He also instructed officials to launch awareness campaigns and put up informational boards urging people to protect the river.

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation has deployed additional sanitation workers, garbage collection vehicles, and emergency response teams at all major ghats. Special arrangements have also been made for C&D waste disposal and recycling.
Concluding the inspection, Gaurav Kumar reaffirmed the civic body’s commitment, saying, “Our goal is to ensure that Chhath Puja is celebrated in a clean, safe, and eco-friendly manner. Every official must remain alert and work in coordination to provide a smooth and spiritual experience for devotees.”
