Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai Pioneers Robotic Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy with Immediate Breast Reconstruction

Navi Mumbai: In a groundbreaking procedure, Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, successfully performed a robotic-assisted nipple-sparing mastectomy with immediate breast reconstruction on a 53-year-old breast cancer patient, marking a significant advancement in cancer treatment. Remarkably, the patient was discharged the very next day without any major complications.

Dr. Neeta Nair, Lead Consultant in Breast-Robotic Surgery, explained that this innovative technique aims to completely remove the cancer while preserving the natural appearance of the breast. Using minimal incisions to extract the tumor, the procedure results in subtle scarring, faster recovery, and sustained patient confidence.

Compared to traditional open surgery, robotic mastectomy causes less tissue and blood loss, reduces pain, and immediate reconstruction mitigates the psychological impact of breast loss. The procedure is particularly beneficial for patients with early-stage cancers, where tumors are away from the nipple and skin remains unaffected.

This advanced technique demonstrates that with precision medicine and modern technology, it is possible not only to save lives but also to maintain self-esteem and enhance quality of life.
