Greater Noida: Khadi, India’s iconic handwoven fabric, stole the spotlight at the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show (UPITS) 2025, emerging not just as a symbol of cultural heritage, but also as a mark of self-reliance and sustainable living.
The fashion show featured a stunning collection where traditional weaves seamlessly merged with contemporary designs. Models showcased garments that reflected the journey of Khadi from “Tradition to Trend”, signaling its evolution into a global fashion statement.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has consistently encouraged citizens to embrace indigenous products. Aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Vocal for Local” initiative, the Uttar Pradesh government has elevated Khadi and handloom products beyond mere clothing. Schemes like One District One Product (ODOP) and the Vishwakarma Shram Samman have directly supported thousands of weavers and artisans, fostering livelihoods while promoting sustainable practices.

The growing popularity of Khadi in Uttar Pradesh reflects rising awareness among the youth about eco-friendly fashion, earning it the moniker “Fabric of the Future.” The UPITS 2025 showcase confirmed that the state is positioning Khadi as a globally recognized brand while preserving its traditional roots.
“The government aims to present Khadi not merely as a fabric, but as a symbol of self-reliance, skilled craftsmanship, and sustainable development to the world,” said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. By promoting Khadi on international platforms, Uttar Pradesh demonstrates how local heritage can achieve global acclaim.
