Lucknow – In a landmark medical achievement, surgeons at Balrampur Hospital successfully removed a massive 20-kilogram tumor from the abdomen of a 45-year-old woman from Faizabad. The patient, who had been suffering from severe abdominal swelling, pain, loss of appetite, and weakness, is now recovering well.
According to hospital officials, the patient had visited several hospitals in Faizabad and Lucknow but found no relief before reaching Balrampur Hospital on September 10. There, she was examined by senior surgeon Dr. S.K. Saxena, who immediately admitted her after suspecting a large abdominal tumor.

Dr. Saxena, who led the surgical team, said, “In my 38 years of service, I have operated on many tumors, but this is the first time I have removed one of such enormous size.”
Before surgery, the patient was found to be severely anemic and was administered four units of blood. On September 16, a well-planned surgery lasting nearly two and a half hours was performed. Alongside Dr. Saxena, the operation team included Junior Resident Dr. Shrinath, Nursing Officers Urmila and Anjana, and other support staff.

Explaining the case, Dr. Saxena said the tumor had originated near the ovary and had grown to such proportions that it had compressed the food pipe, intestines, bladder, and even the passage for stool. During the procedure, the team carefully removed the tumor in multiple sections to avoid damaging vital organs. “The tumor contained both solid and fluid components. Extra caution was required to safeguard the surrounding organs, which is why the surgery was lengthy,” he added.
The patient remains under observation but is reported to be recovering steadily. Hospital Director Dr. Kavita Arya, CMS Dr. Himanshu Chaturvedi, and MS Dr. Debashish Shukla congratulated the surgical team for their exemplary effort, calling it a milestone in the hospital’s service to patients.
