In India, Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on 5th September, marking the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a renowned philosopher and educationist. This day holds great importance for the academic community as it recognizes the tireless efforts and dedication of teachers who shape the minds of future generations.
In today’s rapidly changing and technology-driven world, the role of a teacher goes far beyond delivering knowledge. A modern teacher is a mentor, guide, and facilitator who nurtures critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills among students. By instilling values, ethics, and social responsibility, they play a vital role in the holistic development of individuals.
The role of a modern teacher may be defined as follows:
1. Facilitator of Learning – Encouraging students to explore, discover, and learn through experiential methods.
2. Mentor – Providing guidance, support, and motivation to help students overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
3. Role Model – Demonstrating values, ethics, and conduct that students are expected to follow.
4. Lifelong Learner – Staying updated with the latest developments in their subject area and teaching practices.
5. Agent of Change – Preparing students to face the complexities of a constantly evolving world and inspiring positive transformation.
Teachers’ Day serves as a reminder of the significance of these roles and the deep impact teachers have on students’ lives. It is also an occasion to express gratitude and appreciation for their selfless dedication and hard work.
In alignment with these objectives, Teachers’ Day was celebrated at the School of Management Sciences, Lucknow campus, where Mr. Sharad Singh, Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, blessed all the teachers and colleagues with words of encouragement for their continued dedication to teaching.
On this occasion, Dr. Ashish Bhatnagar, Director, and Dr. Bharat Raj Singh, Director General, also expressed their views on the importance of education. Along with them, Dr. Dharmendra Singh (Associate Director), Dr. P.K. Singh (Dean), nearly 200 faculty members and staff participated in the celebration.
