Rajasthan Boils Like a Furnace: Temperatures Cross 45°C in 7 Cities, Red Alert Issued for Several Districts

Jaipur: Rajasthan is reeling under an intense heatwave as temperatures soar past 45°C in at least seven cities across the state. With dry conditions prevailing in most regions ahead of the monsoon, the extreme heat has made it nearly impossible for people to step outdoors during the day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for several districts, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and extreme weather in parts of western Rajasthan on Saturday, May 24.

‘Nautapa’ Begins May 25 — Expect Even More Heat

The IMD has cautioned that starting May 25, Rajasthan will enter the “Nautapa” phase — a nine-day period traditionally known for intense heat. This phase is expected to push temperatures even higher, making conditions harsher.

Jaisalmer Sizzles at 48°C

According to the IMD’s latest daily weather report, while parts of Udaipur, Kota, and Ajmer divisions witnessed light to moderate rainfall on Friday — with Shahpura (Bhilwara) recording the highest at 30 mm — most of the state remained dry and extremely hot.

The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Jaisalmer at 48.0°C, followed closely by Barmer at 47.5°C. The lowest minimum temperature in the state was 31.7°C in Jodhpur. Humidity levels ranged between 16% and 75% in various regions.

  • Churu: 45.6

  • Jodhpur: 44.5

Red & Orange Alerts Issued

Looking ahead, the IMD has issued Red and Orange Alerts for eastern and western Rajasthan. Severe heatwave conditions are expected to continue in the Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaipur, and Bharatpur divisions, with hot days, strong winds, and warm nights likely.

Additionally, Shekhawati and parts of western Rajasthan are predicted to experience hot nights for the next 2–3 days. With easterly winds gaining strength, some areas might witness severe dust storms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50–60 km/h.

Advisory to Citizens

The state government and weather authorities have urged residents to avoid outdoor activities during peak hours, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions against heatstroke. Emergency services are also on alert to deal with any weather-related incidents.

With the heat showing no signs of abating, Rajasthan remains on edge as it braces for what could be one of the hottest spells this summer.
