Encroachment Around Site to Be Cleared by May 14; Memorial to Be Inaugurated on December 6, 2025
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Minister for Tourism and Culture Jaiveer Singh has stated that the upcoming Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial and Cultural Centre at Aishbagh will stand as a beacon of inspiration for Ambedkar’s followers across the country. During an inspection of the site, he directed executing agencies to complete all construction work by October 31, 2025, ahead of the planned inauguration on December 6, 2025—the death anniversary (Parinirvan Diwas) of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
He also issued strict orders to remove all encroachments around the memorial site by 11 AM on May 14, instructing the local administration, Municipal Corporation, Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), and police to take joint action.
Memorial to Preserve and Project Ambedkar’s Legacy
During the inspection, Singh visited various parts of the memorial including the museum and dormitories. He called for minor deficiencies to be corrected and emphasized that the memorial was designed to preserve the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar through murals and displays that reflect his life and contributions. “This centre will not only honor his memory but also empower and inspire future generations,” he said.
Singh highlighted Ambedkar’s role in the nation’s building and described the memorial as a visionary initiative under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already taken steps to develop five sites associated with Ambedkar’s life as ‘Panchteerth’.
Political Controversy and Strong Remarks
In a scathing attack on political opponents, Singh said, “Today, a particular party is pretending to show affection for Ambedkar, despite having stalled scholarships, opposed reservation in promotions, and changed the names of districts and institutions named after him during their regime.”
He added, “The same party now has the audacity to put their face alongside Ambedkar’s and claim equal standing. But Ambedkar’s true followers and the Dalit community are aware of this hypocrisy and will never forgive such betrayal.”
He contrasted this with the current government, stating that Yogi and Modi have truly honored Ambedkar’s ideals by implementing welfare schemes for the marginalized and safeguarding the Constitution.
Cleanup, Safety, and Future Expansion Plans
Singh instructed UPPCL and C&DS managers to improve cleanliness and waste management around the site. He also directed that CCTV cameras be installed to monitor movements and prevent any disruption. LDA’s tehsildar, Hemchandra Tiwari, has been tasked with leading the anti-encroachment drive with adequate police force.
Additionally, Singh proposed that the adjacent vacant land be handed over to the Department of Culture for potential construction of the Culture Directorate and associated facilities.
To mark the occasion, Singh also planted Rudraksha and Parijat trees near the memorial’s grand statue of Ambedkar.
The inspection was attended by Dr. Lalji Prasad Nirmal (Chairman, UP Finance Development Corporation), Mukesh Meshram (Principal Secretary, Tourism and Culture), Ravindra Kumar-I (Special Secretary, Culture), Vishal Singh (Director, Information and Culture), and representatives of implementing agencies.
