Shashank Singh eager to set the bar high

New Delhi: Shashank Singh of Punjab Kings (PBKS) has expressed his excitement about playing alongside two of Australia’s finest all-rounders, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, for IPL 2025. He shares his eagerness to learn from their experience and skills, particularly from Maxwell’s status as a match-winner and Stoinis’ all-rounder capabilities. Shashank noted the similarity between his role and Stoinis’ as a lower-order batsman and medium-paced all-rounder.

In IPL 2024, Shashank emerged as a reliable finisher for PBKS, scoring 354 runs in 14 matches at an impressive strike rate of 164.65 and an average of 44.25. He is eager to build on his successful season and continue his growth under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, who was bought for a record Rs 26.75 crore in the IPL 2025 Auction. Shashank praised Iyer’s leadership skills and experience, noting his success in the 2024 IPL and his intelligent captaincy in domestic cricket.

Furthermore, Shashank spoke highly of PBKS’ new head coach, Ricky Ponting, with whom he had discussions about his batting order and contributions to the team before the auction. Shashank sees Ponting’s vast experience in the IPL as a valuable resource for his own development.

Looking ahead, Shashank remains committed to helping PBKS achieve their first-ever IPL title. He holds himself to the same high standards as last season, with a firm focus on improving his performance and contributing to the team’s success. His ultimate aspiration is to play for India, and he emphasizes the importance of focusing on each game, whether in the IPL, Ranji Trophy, or Vijay Hazare Trophy, while maintaining peak fitness.
