8 bus stands to dot Outer Ring Road

Outer Ring Road

Lucknow: Transport Corporation’s bus stations are also a major reason for traffic jams in the capital Lucknow. This has been proved in many survey reports. Efforts have been made several times in the past to build bus stations outside the city.

Now again efforts have been intensified to get Lucknow rid of traffic jams. In this sequence, efforts are being made to build eight bus stations on the Outer Ring Road.

Proposal to build eight bus stations on the Outer Ring Road

The proposed eight bus stations on the Outer Ring Road will connect the capital to eight districts. Bus stations will be developed outside the city in the direction of making a smart city. About 2,400 buses are operated daily from the four bus stations of the capital. The capital’s Kaiserbagh, Charbagh, Alambagh and Awadh bus stations are within the capital. In such a situation, the buses operated from these bus stations are a major reason for traffic jams. Especially the area of Kaiserbagh is always under the grip of traffic jams due to the buses operated from Kaiserbagh bus station. In view of this, a proposal was made to build eight bus stations on highways, ring roads and outer ring roads.

These bus stations have been proposed near the border districts along the outer ring road, so that passengers can easily commute. These include Lucknow to Sitapur, Mohan, Kanpur, Hardoi, Rae Bareli, Ayodhya, Kursi Road and Sultanpur Road. The search for land to build bus stations in these areas has also started. For this, land has been sought on Lucknow’s highway, ring road and outer ring road. A letter has been sent by the government to the District Magistrates regarding providing land. In the letter, it has been asked to provide land for building bus stations on highways and ring roads.

A bus station will be built on 10 acres of land

10 acres of land will be required to build a bus station. Apart from the bus station, workshops will be built on 10 acres of land and charging stations for electric buses will be built on three acres of land. 23 major bus stations of Transport Corporation will become modern terminals. These bus stations will be modernized on PPP model. Contract has been signed with the investing firm for modernization of 11 bus stations. Contract will be signed for the remaining 12 bus stations after the approval of the Council of Ministers.

Minister of State for Transport (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh said that the District Magistrates of Ghaziabad, Agra, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Meerut, Aligarh, Gorakhpur, Ayodhyadham, Bulandshahr, Bareilly, Raebareli, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Kanpur, Mathura and Hapur have been directed to make alternative arrangements for the operation of buses during the construction period for the development of 23 bus stations to be built on PPP model. Facilities like modern passenger facilities, retail outlets, multiplexes etc. will be available at these bus stations to be built on PPP model. This will enable passengers to get better facilities at the bus station.
