Lucknow: Special Gram Sabha meetings were organised across all Gram Panchayats of Uttar Pradesh on October 2 to mark Gandhi Jayanti, with officials and employees overseeing discussions on the Viksit Gram Panchayat Plan (VGPP) and rural development initiatives.

The Viksit Bharat–G Ram Ji Yojana was prominently discussed during the meetings, with villagers informed about its key provisions and implementation framework. The programme was organised by the Rural Development Department in accordance with detailed guidelines issued following the directions of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and the Government of India’s Ministry of Rural Development.

Under the supervision of Chief Development Officers in the districts, the special Gram Sabhas focused on the Viksit Bharat–G Ram Ji Yojana and preparation of the VGPP based on local needs. The meetings were conducted in accordance with directions issued by Rural Development Commissioner Pramod Kumar Upadhyay.

Nodal officers designated by the Principal Secretary, Rural Development Department, visited their assigned districts to monitor the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan and special Gram Sabha activities. They will submit detailed reports to the Rural Development Commissioner.

During the meetings, Panchayat secretaries interacted with villagers and explained key provisions of the Viksit Bharat–G Ram Ji Act. Villagers were informed that the scheme provides a guarantee of 125 days of employment per rural household annually, compared with the earlier 100-day provision. The framework also provides for unemployment allowance if work is not provided within 15 days of demand and compensation in case of delayed wage payments.

The meetings also highlighted that 375 categories of permissible works can now be selected according to the specific needs of villages, facilitating the creation of durable and useful rural assets.
