Lucknow: The Basic Astrophotography Workshop organised by the Indira Gandhi Planetarium, Lucknow, under the Uttar Pradesh Department of Science and Technology, concluded successfully at Bappa Shri Narain Vocational Post Graduate College (K.K.V.) on Saturday.
Held from September 25 to October 3, the workshop aimed to introduce students to the fundamentals of astrophotography while encouraging interest in astronomy and promoting a scientific outlook.

A total of 23 meritorious students participated in the programme. During the training, participants learned about astrophotography equipment, camera techniques, selection of celestial objects, photography procedures and methods for enhancing astronomical images. Practical aspects of capturing images of celestial bodies were also covered.
The workshop was conducted by Saurabh Kumar, Utkarsh Mishra, Huzaifa Shakeel, Anurag Awasthi and Deepikha. Astrophotographers Utkarsh Mishra and Huzaifa Shakeel provided students with technical training in astrophotography. Dr Shivani from K.K.V. College coordinated the programme.
Ramesh Chandra, Director, Uttar Pradesh Council of Science and Technology, said training programmes such as basic astrophotography workshops play an important role in developing students’ interest in astronomy and nurturing scientific thinking. He said such initiatives could encourage young talent to pursue astronomy and astrophotography and help develop a new generation of astrophotographers.

He said the Department of Science and Technology is organising training and awareness programmes to promote interest in science and scientific thinking among students and youth. Astrophotography programmes are being taken to educational institutions to provide wider exposure to astronomy and modern technologies.
The next Basic Astrophotography Workshop will be organised at Sri Jayanarayan Post Graduate College (K.K.C.), Lucknow.
At the conclusion, students described astrophotography as a blend of science, technology and creativity and expressed interest in pursuing astronomy and astrophotography in the future.
