Lucknow — Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Dr. Jitendra Singh, jointly inaugurated the newly constructed premises of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) Lucknow Bench at Sector-7, Gomti Nagar Extension.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Singh highlighted the significant progress made in clearing pending cases at CAT over the last decade. “From 1985 to 2015, nearly 9 lakh cases were pending in CAT. In the past ten years alone, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, around 3 lakh of those cases have been resolved. This accounts for approximately 35% of the total backlog,” he noted.
The Union Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening judicial infrastructure across the country. He mentioned that after 2014, several CAT benches were provided new or renovated premises: Jabalpur received a new building in 2021, Mumbai underwent reconstruction in 2023, and Guwahati and Lucknow benches have been allotted their own buildings by 2025.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Singh shared that Jammu received a permanent CAT bench in 2020, followed by Srinagar in 2021, Puducherry in 2023, and circuit benches in Leh and Kargil in 2024.
Highlighting CAT’s objective, Dr. Singh said, “The tribunal was established in 1985 through an Act of Parliament to provide timely and effective redressal for central government employees. The goal is to ensure justice at the earliest level, eliminating the need for appeals in higher courts.”
The Union Minister also extended gratitude to the Uttar Pradesh government, acknowledging its support in facilitating the construction of the new Lucknow bench premises, which was completed at a cost of ₹25 crore.
The state-of-the-art complex includes an e-court, accessible facilities for persons with disabilities such as ramps, lifts, and accessible restrooms, as well as green building features including rooftop solar panels, energy-efficient lighting, fire safety systems, and CCTV surveillance.
Dr. Singh concluded by expressing confidence that the new infrastructure would enhance the functioning of the tribunal and provide a more seamless experience for litigants and stakeholders.
The inauguration marks a significant step towards improving administrative justice delivery and reflects the government’s broader push towards digital and accessible governance.
