There are reports of heat wave in many districts of the state. With the mercury levels playing truant, diseases are also increasing. People are suffering from diarrhea, fever, cold and other diseases. According to the Meteorological Department, there is no possibility of any change in the weather at present. The heat may increase further in the coming days. The health department is busy ramping up facilities.

Lucknow Health Department has decided to make people aware through civil defense to protect themselves from heat wave. CMO Dr. Manoj Aggarwal has asked the public not to panic. He has said you can avoid heat wave by taking some precautions. Do not leave the house unnecessarily between 12 noon to 3 pm. If you go out, cover your body and drink as much water as possible.

Instructions for arranging water at railway and bus stands

Lucknow Chief Medical Officer Dr. Manoj Aggarwal has held an important meeting with the officials regarding the heat wave. In the meeting held recently, the CMO asked Civil Defense officials to spread wide publicity to the people in their respective wards about the symptoms and prevention of heat wave. Along with this, ensure provision of drinking water for common people and animals at all public places including railway stations, bus stands, so that any untoward incident can be avoided. He has also been asked to identify the people affected by heat wave and help them.

The Lucknow CMO said that coordination should be established with the nearest health center and to deal with the emergency situation, contact 108 ambulance and prepare to take the patient to the nearest health center. Instructions have been given to continue all these preparations for the next two months. Instructions have been given to remain especially alert on the day of voting on 20th May. Dr. Manoj Aggarwal told that weakness, dizziness, sweating, headache, and fainting are the symptoms of heat wave. If you feel dizzy or experience any other problem, consult a doctor immediately. He said that do not leave the house unnecessarily between 12 noon and 3 pm. If it is very important to go out, cover your head with a wet cloth or towel while leaving the house. During this time, use an umbrella and keep drinking water.

In view of the heat, Lucknow CMO Manoj Aggarwal said that at this time wear light colored clothes which absorb sweat. Along with this, stay in an open airy room and keep curtains on the windows and doors of the room. Apart from this, drink plenty of water. Drink even if you are not thirsty. The Lucknow CMO has also asked to eat juicy fruits like orange, watermelon, melon, cucumber, buttermilk, pineapple, coconut water, lemonade, homemade lassi and ORS solution. Stay on the lower floor of the house during the day. Also keep the animals in shady places. There should be adequate arrangements for their drinking water.

Children, pregnant women, elderly and sick need more protection

During summer, small children, pregnant women, workers working in open spaces, sick people, elderly people and people who are moving from a cold place to a hot place. They are more sensitive to heat and sunstroke. Therefore they need to be more careful. According to the Chief Medical Officer, do not panic but by taking some precautions, you can avoid heat wave. During this period, the Health Department has asked to eat fresh and home-made, easily digestible food. Also, avoid consuming high protein foods at this time. Do not consume tea, coffee, carbonated soft drinks, alcohol etc. Because it dehydrates the body. Apart from this, people who work in open places should avoid working in the afternoon. Do not wear dark colored tight clothes and do not go out of the house barefoot.

Drink sherbet, lassi, lemon water, buttermilk

At the same time, the Health Department has been asked to keep many things in mind during upcoming festivals, wedding parties and other personal events as well as while travelling. During this period, keep drinking appropriate amount of water. Keep drinking water during the journey. Also drink ORS and home-made drinks like sherbet, lassi, lemon water, buttermilk. By consuming it the lack of water in the body is compensated. In this season, use seasonal fruits and vegetables with high water content. Like watermelon, melon, orange, grapes, pineapple, cucumber, lettuce and many other fruits and vegetables. Apart from this, if you work in the open, then cover your head, face, hands and feet with a wet cloth and also use an umbrella. Stay outside the house in cool places (shade of trees).

Keep windows and doors covered during the day

Apart from this, proper arrangements should be made by the health department to prevent direct sunlight and hot air. Keep your homes cool, keeping windows, curtains and doors closed during the day.
