Sages with Unique Names Capture Attention at Maha Kumbh 2025

Prayagraj: As the sacred city of Prayagraj gears up for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, the event has drawn an extraordinary collection of seers and devotees from across India and the world. Among the gathering of spiritual leaders, two unique figures, Bavander Baba and Splendor Baba, have become the talk of the festival, showcasing the diversity and eccentricity of this grand spiritual congregation.

The Journey of Splendor Baba

Splendor Baba, a differently-abled sage from Gujarat, arrived at the Kumbh Mela after a grueling 14-day journey on his three-wheeler motorbike. Sharing his experience, he said, “My ashram is located between Ahmedabad and Rajkot. Despite being affected by polio since the age of three, I made this pilgrimage to honor Sanatan Dharma and join my fellow sadhus. The journey was challenging, with rains delaying me for four days, but this year’s Kumbh feels extraordinarily special.”

This is not Splendor Baba’s first Kumbh Mela. He previously attended the event in 2013 but expressed a deep sense of spiritual fulfillment on this occasion.

Bavander Baba’s Mission

Bavander Baba, known for traveling over 100,000 kilometers across India to spread the teachings of Sanatan Dharma, brought with him a powerful message. “One of my major concerns is the disrespect some Hindus show towards their own gods and goddesses,” he said. Highlighting a troubling incident, he explained, “I found a pack of ‘beedis’ bearing Lord Shiva’s image. Such acts are disrespectful. I have written to the chief ministers of 14 states, urging action to prevent such offenses.”

Quirky Sages Add Flavor to the Event

The Maha Kumbh has also welcomed other distinctive figures, including E-rickshaw Baba, who traveled from Delhi, and Chabhi Wale Baba, known for carrying a 20-kilogram key. Another notable figure is Chhotu Baba, who has gained fame for not bathing for 32 years. These unique personalities contribute to the vibrant and eclectic spirit of the Kumbh Mela.

Preparations for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025

The Uttar Pradesh government is making significant efforts to ensure a smooth and safe experience for the millions of pilgrims expected to attend the Maha Kumbh from January 13 to February 26. Special emphasis has been placed on transportation, with the introduction of electric buses to provide eco-friendly and efficient travel options.

Initially, 10 to 15 electric buses will be operational in Prayagraj, with an additional 30 buses being deployed from Lucknow ahead of the major bathing festival, Mauni Amavasya, on January 29.

To ensure safety, authorities are utilizing advanced technologies, including quick response vehicles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), firefighting robots, and fire mist motorcycles. ADG (Fire Department) Padmaja Chauhan stated that crowd control and fire prevention measures are being prioritized to safeguard the devotees.

Shahi Snan Dates

The three primary Shahi Snan (royal baths), which are the highlights of the Maha Kumbh, will take place on:

  • January 14: Makar Sankranti
  • January 29: Mauni Amavasya
  • February 3: Basant Panchami

The Maha Kumbh Mela, held once every 12 years, is anticipated to attract crores of people, reaffirming its significance as one of the largest spiritual gatherings in the world.
