Kanpur: Following India’s victory against Bangladesh in Kanpur to win the second Test, captain Rohit Sharma discussed the adjustments made to the coaching and leadership within the Indian cricket team. He discussed Gautam Gambhir’s new leadership and the unavoidable shift in previous coach Rahul Dravid’s teaching methods. Rohit’s reflections also demonstrated how a team inevitably evolves with the arrival of new leaders.
Working under Rahul’s guidance was enjoyable for Rohit. During his tenure as head coach, Dravid concentrated on developing new players and assembling a formidable squad.
Regarding Dravid’s exit, Rohit said, “We all continue.” It was inevitable that we would eventually need to start working with new staff. We had a great time, but life carries on after Rahul bhai said he was done working here.”
Gautam Gambhir took up the job when Dravid stepped down, and he brought new insight to the team’s strategy. Playing with Gambhir in the past, Rohit spoke about the passion and attitude that Gambhir brings to his position.
“I’ve played alongside Gautam Gambhir, so I know the kind of approach he brings to the game. It’s early, but so far so good,” Rohit said to reporters after the match.
Rohit gave an explanation of how India kept a good vibe after winning the second Test. “We wanted to send them out as soon as possible and see what we could do with the bat after we lost two and a half days earlier. It wasn’t about the runs we scored when we bowled them out for 230, but rather the overs we were able to get at them. Pitch had very little. It was an incredible effort to turn it into a game on that field.”
