MJPRU Admission Committee Approves 2026–27 Admission Policy, Introduces Major Academic Reforms

Bareilly: The Admission Committee of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU), Bareilly, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh, approved the admission policy for the 2026–27 academic session and introduced a series of significant reforms aimed at making higher education more inclusive, flexible and aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The meeting, held at the Committee Hall in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, resulted in several key decisions that will impact admissions across the university campus and its affiliated colleges.

The newly approved Admission Policy 2026–27 has been structured into three sections and comprehensively covers admission procedures, reservation policies, weightage criteria, subject selection, horizontal and vertical reservations, and guidelines for admissions to professional programmes.

Among the major reforms, the committee approved the classification of Arts faculty subjects into four categories for affiliated colleges, a move aimed at simplifying subject selection for students.

Admissions to the Master of Education (M.Ed.) programme will now be based entirely on merit, eliminating previous admission procedures. The committee also relaxed eligibility criteria for the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.), making candidates with 50 per cent marks eligible for admission.

In line with the National Education Policy 2020, the university decided that graduates will now be eligible for direct admission to Master of Arts (M.A.) programmes. Another important decision allows B.Sc. graduates with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics to seek admission through the B.Tech lateral entry route, expanding academic opportunities for science students.

The committee also approved the addition of 10 extra seats each in M.Sc. Chemistry, M.Sc. Plant Science and M.Sc. Biological Science programmes at the university campus to accommodate growing student demand.

In a move to promote educational inclusivity, students who have completed Class XII from Jamia Urdu, Aligarh, and the Maharshi Sandipani Sanskrit Education Board will now be eligible for admission to the first year of undergraduate programmes.

Addressing the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh said the university was committed to ensuring equal educational opportunities for all sections of society. He stated that the revised admission policy reflects the spirit of NEP 2020 by making eligibility criteria for both traditional and professional programmes more flexible and inclusive.

“These decisions have been taken keeping students’ future in mind. The new admission policy will further strengthen academic quality across the university and its affiliated colleges,” he said.

The meeting was attended by Registrar Mahendra Kumar Singh and committee members Prof. Sumitra Kukreti, Prof. S.K. Pandey, Prof. Santosh Arora, Prof. J.N. Maurya, Prof. V.B.S.
