Lawyers Protest Alleged Corruption and Delays in Tehsil Cases

Gonda: Thousands of advocates under the banners of the Bar Association, Gonda, and the Civil Bar Association, Gonda, organised a large protest march from the Collectorate premises to the Civil Court Complex, Tehsil premises and the District Magistrate’s office.

The lawyers alleged persistent misconduct by officials of Gonda Sadar Tehsil, including delays in the disposal of cases, unnecessary adjournments, alleged bribery and discourteous behaviour towards advocates. Protesters raised slogans against corruption and demanded immediate administrative intervention.

Addressing the gathering, former Bar Association President Vindeshwari Prasad Dubey, along with Madhav Raj Mishra, Ram Bujharath Dwivedi, Sangam Lal Dwivedi, Kaushal Kishore Pandey, Ganesh Kumar Srivastava, Jagannath Shukla, Manoj Kumar Singh, Ajit Kumar Srivastava and Sachchidanand Pandey, called for strict action against corruption and accountability among revenue and judicial officials.

The protest march was led jointly by Bar Association President Ravi Chandra Tripathi and Civil Bar Association President Vijay Prakash Tripathi, while proceedings were conducted by Sunil Kumar Pandey, General Secretary of the Bar Association, and Gauri Shankar Chaturvedi, General Secretary of the Civil Bar Association.

Following the demonstration, a delegation met the District Magistrate and submitted a memorandum along with a list of hundreds of pending cases in which, according to the advocates, orders had been delayed despite completion of hearings and legal formalities. The delegation demanded prompt disposal of these matters and action against officials responsible for prolonged delays.

The memorandum warned that if no effective action is taken and the Bar Association is not informed of concrete progress by August 1, 2026, advocates would convene another meeting to formulate a stronger strategy for an intensified agitation against alleged corruption and misconduct in tehsil and court administration.
