Bareilly: Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU), Bareilly, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Pulses Research (IIPR), Kanpur, an institute under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), marking a significant step towards advancing agricultural education, research and innovation.
The collaboration is expected to enhance student training, postgraduate and doctoral research, and joint scientific projects between the two premier institutions, creating new opportunities for academic excellence and technological advancement in agriculture.
The MoU was signed by Dr. G.P. Dixit, Director of ICAR–Indian Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur, and Mahendra Kumar, Registrar of MJPRU, Bareilly.
Witnessing the agreement, Prof. Upendra Kumar, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technology and Additional Director (International Relations), said the partnership would provide university students and research scholars with access to state-of-the-art national research facilities. He noted that the collaboration would facilitate joint research projects, exchange programmes for scientists and students, shared use of laboratories, specialised training programmes, workshops, seminars and initiatives for technical capacity building.
Prof. Kumar said the MoU would focus on advanced research in pulse crops, plant breeding, biotechnology, genomics, bioinformatics, natural resource management, climate-resilient agriculture and modern farming technologies. The partnership will enable research scholars to work alongside leading agricultural scientists and contribute to high-quality research addressing national priorities.

The university administration described the agreement as a milestone in strengthening research collaboration at the national level. It is expected to enhance the university’s research capabilities while supporting efforts to increase farmers’ incomes, improve pulse production, strengthen food and nutritional security, and contribute to the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).
Representing ICAR-IIPR during the signing ceremony were Dr. Sujeet Kumar, Principal Scientist and Chairman, Human Resource Development, and Dr. C.P. Nath, Senior Scientist and Member Secretary, Human Resource Development, who attended as witnesses. On behalf of the university, Prof. Upendra Kumar and Dr. Neeraj Kumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Education, also witnessed the signing.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh hailed the MoU as a major achievement in the field of agricultural and pulse research. He said the partnership would further strengthen the university’s collaboration with leading national agricultural research institutions and open new avenues for scientific innovation, academic excellence and sustainable agricultural development.
