Gonda Launches Groundwater Week Awareness Campaign

Gonda: The district administration launched Groundwater Week with a district-wide water conservation campaign.

District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan inaugurated the Groundwater Week awareness campaign at the District Panchayat Auditorium with a pledge to promote water conservation and sustainable groundwater management. The week-long programme, running from July 16 to July 22, aims to increase public awareness about groundwater conservation and encourage coordinated efforts by government departments.

Addressing officials, the District Magistrate stressed that water conservation is not merely a government initiative but a collective social and moral responsibility. She administered the pledge on the theme, “Resolve to Conserve Water—There Is No Alternative,” and flagged off an awareness vehicle to spread the campaign’s message across the district.

The programme focused on the declining groundwater table, the importance of rainwater harvesting, judicious use of water and safeguarding water resources for future generations. Officials were instructed to organise awareness programmes in schools, gram panchayats, urban areas and public places with active community participation.

The District Magistrate also directed departments to undertake special campaigns promoting rainwater harvesting, restoration of traditional water bodies, revival of ponds and reservoirs, and prevention of water wastage. She called for close inter-departmental coordination to ensure effective implementation of groundwater conservation activities.

Chief Development Officer Dayanand Prasad, officials from the Minor Irrigation and Groundwater Departments, Block Development Officers and representatives of various departments attended the programme and pledged to transform water conservation into a people’s movement.
