Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party’s national president and former UP Chief Minister Mayawati has demanded that the Supreme Court’s decision on SC-ST be nullified through constitutional amendment. The BSP supremo said that if the decision is not nullified by bringing a bill in this session, some state governments will take advantage of it and divide the SC-ST.

In fact, BSP chief Mayawati posted on X and said that the assurance given by the Honorable Prime Minister to the ST/ST MPs of BJP who went to meet her today that their demands of not implementing the creamy layer in the ST/ST category and not making any sub-classification in the reservation of SC-ST will be considered, is appropriate and if done, it is welcome.

She said that but it would have been better if in the debate before the Constitution Bench of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, the Attorney General on behalf of the Central Government had not argued in favor of applying creamy layer in SC and ST and making their sub-classification regarding reservation, then perhaps this decision would not have come.

Until the decision of the Supreme Court of August 1, 2024 is not nullified through constitutional amendment, the state governments can use this decision under their politics to implement sub-classification and creamy layer of SC / ST class. Therefore, the Constitution Amendment Bill should be brought in this session itself.
