President’s Rule in Manipur Since February 13
On February 13, the central government imposed President’s Rule in Manipur following the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. This development has led to political uncertainty in the northeastern state. According to a notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Manipur Assembly has been suspended. The current legislators’ term extends until 2027. Since the BJP holds a clear majority in the state, the party may claim to form the government again with a new chief ministerial candidate.
Security forces continue to maintain strict vigilance in Manipur, aiming to curb insurgent activities and restore peace in the state.
