Lucknow: On the occasion of the 12th International Yoga Day, the University of Lucknow organized a grand yoga programme on its main campus under the able guidance of Vice-Chancellor Prof. J. P. Saini. The event, themed “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlighted the importance of yoga in promoting holistic health and well-being across all age groups.
The programme commenced at 6:25 AM with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Arvind Mohan, Registrar Bhavana Mishra, and Chief Guest Shri Bhanu Das Dhakras, All India General Secretary of Vivekananda Kendra. The event was successfully coordinated under the leadership of Dean, Students’ Welfare Prof. Amita Kanaujia.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Bhanu Das Dhakras emphasized the role of yoga in cultivating moral values and fostering a balanced and holistic lifestyle. He encouraged students to adopt yoga as a daily practice for physical, mental, and spiritual development.
Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Arvind Mohan also shared his views on the significance of yoga in maintaining good health and enhancing overall well-being. The programme focused on simple and effective yogic practices, demonstrating asanas and exercises that can be incorporated into daily routines for a healthier life.
Yoga trainer Dr. Umesh Shukla conducted the practical yoga sessions, guiding participants through various yogic exercises. The programme was efficiently conducted by Prof. Alok Yadav, Dean of the Faculty of Yoga and Alternative Medicine, who ensured smooth execution of the event.

More than 500 participants, including NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, and students from the Department of Physical Education, actively took part in the celebrations. The event also saw the participation of deans, heads of departments, faculty members, Chief Proctor, Chief Provost, Works Superintendent, Estate and Garden Superintendent, representatives of LUAA, NSS coordinators, as well as Rangers and Rover units.
The programme concluded at 7:15 AM with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dean Students’ Welfare Prof. Amita Kanaujia, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, faculty members, and students for their active participation and contribution to the success of the event.
The celebration at Lucknow University reflected a strong commitment to promoting yoga as a way of life for healthy ageing and holistic development.
