Legal Aid and Empowerment Camp in Mirzapur Brings Justice

42 cases settled through Special Lok Adalat; housing benefits distributed, medical services provided to 250 patients, and nine litigation-free villages honoured

Mirzapur: In a major initiative aimed at expanding access to justice and government welfare services in remote areas of Uttar Pradesh, the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (UPSLSA), in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Mirzapur, organized a comprehensive Legal Aid and Empowerment Camp at the Halia Block Campus in Mirzapur district on July 4, 2026.

The camp was held under the patronage of Hon’ble Justice Vikram Nath, Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), and under the guidance of Hon’ble Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi, Senior Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad and Executive Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority.

The programme formed part of the State-Wide Outreach Programme launched by UPSLSA to address the legal, social, and welfare-related needs of vulnerable and marginalized communities living in remote regions of the state. The initiative specifically focused on Scheduled Tribes, forest dwellers, and individuals facing legal or administrative challenges, with the objective of bringing legal services and government support directly to their doorstep.

Dignitaries Attend the Camp

The event witnessed the presence of several judicial officers, administrative officials, and district-level functionaries. Among those present were Dr. (Mrs.) Manu Kalia, Member Secretary, UPSLSA, Lucknow; Anupam Kumar, District Judge, Mirzapur; District Magistrate Pawan Kumar Gangwar; Chief Judicial Magistrate Rahul Singh; Secretary, DLSA, Anand Kumar II; Superintendent of Police Aparna Rajat Kaushika; Chief Development Officer Vishal Kumar; Divisional Forest Officer Arushi Mishra; Chief Medical Officer Kriti Kumar Mishra; Block Development Officer Vijay Kumar Tripathi; and Tehsildar Vishal Kumar Sharma, along with other senior officials.

Special Lok Adalat Settles 42 Cases

A Special Lok Adalat organized alongside the camp provided an effective platform for dispute resolution. A total of 42 cases were amicably settled through compromise, helping litigants avoid lengthy legal proceedings and promoting access to speedy justice.

Officials said the initiative reinforced the role of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in reducing litigation and fostering community harmony.

Focus on Tribal Communities and Forest Dwellers

The camp was specially designed to address the concerns of Scheduled Tribes, forest-dependent communities, and citizens facing difficulties in accessing government schemes or legal remedies.

Participants received legal awareness regarding their rights and entitlements under various laws. Administrative and judicial officials interacted directly with residents, allowing them to seek clarification on legal matters, raise grievances, and obtain guidance regarding welfare schemes and government services.

By bringing multiple departments together under one platform, the camp significantly reduced the barriers that often prevent marginalized communities from accessing institutional support.

Recognition for Litigation-Free Villages

In recognition of efforts toward maintaining social harmony and minimizing disputes, certificates of appreciation were presented to Gram Pradhans of nine litigation-free villages in Mirzapur district.

The honoured villages included:

  • Tendua Khurda
  • Tendua Kalan
  • Jhelumpur (Barkach)
  • Rampur Devideen
  • Chaturbhuja (Achugikalan)
  • Pukhraur
  • Galaria
  • Babura Kalan
  • Adbada Gokul

Officials praised the cooperation of village representatives in fostering peaceful dispute resolution and promoting community-level harmony.

Welfare Benefits Distributed

The camp also served as a platform for delivering government welfare benefits directly to eligible beneficiaries.

Keys were handed over to seven beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, while six beneficiaries received ‘Gharauni’ documents, strengthening land and property ownership rights.

Several public grievances raised by residents were addressed during the camp itself, while district officials assured prompt action on other pending matters.

Social Welfare Activities Mark the Event

Adding a social and community-oriented dimension to the programme, the traditional Annaprashan ceremony was performed for two infant girls by UPSLSA Member Secretary Dr. Manu Kalia.

The birthdays of six girl children were also celebrated during the event, highlighting the administration’s commitment to promoting the welfare, dignity, and empowerment of the girl child.

Medical Camp Benefits 250 Patients

A comprehensive health camp was organized alongside the legal aid programme, providing free medical consultations and medicines to local residents.

A team of medical professionals, including Dr. Amar Bahadur (Gynecologist and Obstetrician), Dr. Yogesh Dubey (Physician), Dr. Reena Singh (Female Medical Officer), Dr. Alok (Medical Officer), and ophthalmic refractionist Santosh Kumar, examined a total of 250 patients.

The medical team provided health check-ups, consultations, treatment advice, and medicines, ensuring access to healthcare services for people from remote areas.

Strengthening Access to Justice and Welfare

Speaking on the significance of the initiative, officials emphasized that the Legal Aid and Empowerment Camp represents a crucial step toward building an inclusive and equitable society where legal empowerment and welfare services are accessible to all sections of society, particularly those living in remote and underserved regions.

The District Administration reiterated its commitment to ensuring that eligible citizens receive the benefits of government welfare programmes and that public grievances are addressed in a timely and effective manner.

The camp concluded with a renewed commitment from judicial and administrative authorities to strengthen outreach efforts, bridge the gap between government institutions and marginalized communities, and expand access to justice, healthcare, and social welfare services across Uttar Pradesh.

The successful organization of the Mirzapur camp marks another significant milestone in UPSLSA’s ongoing mission to ensure that legal awareness, empowerment, and public welfare reach even the most remote corners of the state, reinforcing the principle that access to justice is a right available to every citizen.
