Rome: Italy clinched their second consecutive Davis Cup title, marking a historic achievement in men’s tennis after a 25-year wait. World number one Yannick Sinner sealed the 2-0 victory over the Netherlands with a commanding 7-6, 6-2 win against Tallon Griekspoor. Earlier, Matteo Berrettini had set the tone, defeating Botic van de Gendskalp 6-4, 6-2 to give Italy an early lead in front of 9,200 fans.
Sinner, who finished an exceptional season unbeaten in the tournament, expressed his delight, saying, “Coming back as defending champions and winning the title again is one of the best feelings for all of us.” Italy became the first team since the Czech Republic in 2012-2013 to defend their Davis Cup crown. The Italian women’s team also triumphed, winning the Billie Jean King Cup earlier in the week. Together, the victories underline Italy’s growing dominance in global tennis.
