Washington: World No. 1 Iga Swiatek recently reached the milestone of becoming the ninth player to spend 100 weeks at the top of the WTA rankings. Reflecting on the achievement, Swiatek expressed surprise, saying that “it’s hard to comprehend this milestone” because it happened so quickly.
In a select group of nine players to have spent 100 weeks at the top of the WTA rankings, Swiatek is the fifth youngest player to achieve the feat at the age of 22 years 326 days, after Martina Hingis, Monica Seles, Stefanie Graf and Chris Evert.
“Honestly, it’s hard for me to comprehend because it happened so fast,” Swiatek said about joining the 100 club. “I never expected to be in that position. “Actually, being at the top of the sport for so long is something that makes me really proud,” Swiatek said at the Madrid Open pre-tournament press conference.
