Governor Anandiben Patel Addresses RMLIMS Convocation, Urges Young Doctors to Embrace Service

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Governor and Chancellor of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Anandiben Patel, on Monday addressed the institute’s Third Convocation Ceremony virtually from Raj Bhavan, emphasizing that medicine is not merely a profession but one of the highest forms of service to humanity.

Addressing graduating students, the Governor said a convocation marks a significant milestone where the light of knowledge transforms into a lifelong commitment to public service.

“Along with their degrees, students now carry the responsibility of safeguarding the health, hope, and trust of millions of people. True success in life is determined not by medals but by service, compassion, and dedication,” she said.

Degrees Awarded to 330 Students

During the convocation, degrees were conferred upon 330 students from various medical and health sciences disciplines, while 26 students received medals for academic excellence. All degrees were uploaded to DigiLocker, reflecting the institution’s commitment to digital governance and accessibility.

Congratulating the graduates and medal recipients, the Governor also praised those who narrowly missed academic distinctions, encouraging them to continue striving for excellence through perseverance and commitment.

She acknowledged the contributions of faculty members, doctors, researchers, staff, parents, and guardians, whose guidance and sacrifices played a crucial role in the students’ achievements.

Medicine Is a Service to Humanity

Highlighting the ethical responsibilities of healthcare professionals, Patel said patients approach doctors not only for treatment but also for hope, trust, and emotional support.

“A doctor’s words should offer reassurance, their behavior should reflect empathy, and their knowledge should demonstrate excellence,” she remarked.

The Governor stressed that rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, robotic surgery, genomics, and digital healthcare are continuously transforming medical science. She urged young doctors to remain lifelong learners and stay updated with emerging technologies.

“The scope of medical science is limitless. Continuous learning is essential for every healthcare professional,” she said.

Praises RMLIMS Achievements

The Governor lauded RMLIMS for its achievements in healthcare delivery, education, and research. She noted that the institute’s recognition as the first NABH-accredited public-sector medical institution reflects its commitment to quality healthcare and patient-centric services.

She highlighted that the institute has successfully performed more than 300 robotic surgeries within a short span and has introduced several patient-friendly initiatives, including bedside medicine distribution and a 24-hour Green OPD service.

Patel also appreciated the institute’s Nutritional Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) for malnourished children, treatment facilities for clubfoot patients, and its designation as a nodal centre for STEMI cardiac care in Uttar Pradesh. The installation of an advanced Gamma Knife machine at the Neurosciences Centre was described as a major advancement in the treatment of complex neurological disorders.

Health Beyond Hospitals

The Governor said that health is not built solely through hospitals and medicines but also through awareness, hygiene, nutrition, yoga, and disciplined lifestyles.

She highlighted the efforts of both the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments in strengthening healthcare infrastructure through initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, vaccination drives, Jan Aushadhi centres, digital health services, and the expansion of AYUSH systems.

According to her, the establishment of new medical colleges, strengthening of district hospitals, expansion of super-speciality services, and digitisation of healthcare facilities have significantly enhanced the state’s medical infrastructure.

National Education Policy Opening New Opportunities

Speaking on higher education reforms, Patel said the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has opened new avenues in multidisciplinary education, innovation, research, and skill development.

“Universities today are not merely degree-granting institutions; they are centres of innovation, research, entrepreneurship, and social transformation,” she said.

She noted that digital initiatives such as SWAYAM, DIKSHA, the Academic Bank of Credits, and the National Digital Library have expanded access to education beyond geographical barriers.

Directives for Campus Improvement

The Governor directed the institute administration and concerned government departments to address all deficiencies identified during inspections conducted by the Raj Bhavan team.

She instructed authorities to prioritize cleanliness across the campus, hospital facilities, hostels, and academic buildings. Special emphasis was placed on ensuring nutritious food for students, improving hostel facilities, maintaining quality standards in construction projects, and creating a clean, aesthetically pleasing campus environment.

Patel also called for special cleanliness, beautification, and student welfare campaigns across universities and educational institutions in the state, coupled with regular monitoring of facilities and services.

Focus on Child Development

The Governor further referred to the distribution of Anganwadi kits to 300 Anganwadi centres in Lakhimpur Kheri and directed Anganwadi workers to utilize them effectively for the holistic development of children.

She stressed the importance of instilling hygiene, discipline, learning habits, and positive values from an early age to ensure the overall development of young children.

Dignitaries Present

The convocation ceremony was attended by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Minister of State for Medical and Health Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh, Principal Secretary Medical Education Amit Kumar Ghosh, RMLIMS Director Dr. C.M. Singh, and several senior officials and distinguished guests.

Concluding her address, the Governor expressed confidence that the graduates of RMLIMS would strengthen the nation’s healthcare system through their knowledge, skills, and commitment to human values, while helping the institute continue its journey toward becoming one of India’s leading centres of medical excellence.
