Tehran: Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has been re-elected as the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament for a seventh consecutive term, reinforcing his position as one of the country’s most influential political figures.
According to Iran’s state news agency ISNA, Ghalibaf secured 235 votes out of 271 during Monday’s parliamentary vote, comfortably retaining the top legislative post.
His re-election comes at a crucial moment as diplomatic discussions between Iran and the United States continue over efforts to ease tensions and explore pathways to ending ongoing hostilities. Political observers view Ghalibaf as one of Tehran’s key strategic voices in matters involving negotiations with Washington.
A Powerful Figure in Iran’s Political Establishment
The 64-year-old leader has remained a dominant figure within Iran’s political and security establishment for decades. Often compared to former senior official Ali Larijani, Ghalibaf is regarded as a pragmatic conservative with strong influence across multiple power centers in the country.

Before entering mainstream politics, Ghalibaf served as a commander in Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and also worked as a pilot. Despite his hardline political roots, he has at times advocated engagement and dialogue with Western nations, earning a reputation as a practical and strategic policymaker.
His continued leadership in parliament is expected to play an important role in shaping Iran’s domestic governance and foreign policy direction in the coming months.
