Anne Hathaway Applauds Tom Cruise’s ‘Digger’ Despite Box-Office Struggles

Los Angeles: Anne Hathaway has praised Tom Cruise’s film Digger, applauding its originality, humour and ambitious storytelling despite its reported struggles at the box office. Her endorsement has brought fresh attention to the dark comedy, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

Hathaway shared her views on Letterboxd, marking her first written review on the film-focused platform. She described the movie as smart, unconventional, daring and entertaining, awarding it a perfect 10 out of 10. She also encouraged audiences to watch the film and form their own opinions.

The positive response comes as Digger faces commercial challenges in the United States. According to figures cited in reports, the film has earned around $15 million domestically following its October 2 release. Its production budget is reportedly more than $160 million, with marketing costs estimated at approximately $100 million.

The film follows an oil tycoon whose world spirals into chaos after an accident at an Antarctic oil rig triggers a potential global catastrophe. Blending dark humour, satire and large-scale disaster, the story reflects Iñárritu’s unconventional approach to filmmaking.

Although the film has received a mixed response from critics and audiences, Hathaway’s praise offers a positive perspective on its creative ambitions.

Meanwhile, Hathaway and Cruise are reportedly expected to reunite for a sequel to the 1990 racing film Days of Thunder, planned for 2028.

Whether Hathaway’s endorsement will encourage more viewers to watch Digger remains to be seen, but her review has added another prominent voice to the conversation surrounding the film.
