India’s explosive opener Abhishek Sharma has set a new national record for the most sixes hit by an Indian batter in T20 Internationals in a calendar year, moving past Suryakumar Yadav despite a relatively modest outing against the West Indies.
Mumbai: Abhishek scored 29 off 24 balls, including three fours and a six, in the fourth T20I against the West Indies. That solitary maximum took his tally for 2026 to 69 sixes in 33 matches, surpassing Suryakumar’s previous Indian benchmark.

The achievement underlines Abhishek’s aggressive approach at the top of the order, where his ability to clear the boundary has become a defining feature of his batting.
However, the overall world record remains out of reach for now. Austria’s Karanbir Singh reportedly struck 122 sixes in T20 Internationals during 2025. He has also continued his powerful run in 2026, with 78 sixes reported for the year.

Meanwhile, India suffered a 24-run defeat in the fourth T20I while chasing a target of 248. West Indies captain Shai Hope scored an unbeaten 102, while Keemo Paul claimed five wickets for 41 runs.
Sanju Samson’s 56 off 23 balls, along with contributions from Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy, could not prevent India from being bowled out for 223 in 19.3 overs.
The result levelled the five-match series at 2-2, setting up a decisive final contest.
