Islamabad: Pakistan is going to get a new foreign secretary. According to media reports, veteran diplomat Amna Baloch is going to become the new foreign secretary of Pakistan.
According to The News International report, Amna Baloch, who is currently Pakistan’s ambassador to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg, will take over on September 11 and will replace Dr. Cyrus Sajjad Qazi after his retirement.
Ishaq Dar had put forward Amna Baloch’s name
The report quoted highly placed sources in the Prime Minister’s Office as saying that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has approved the recommendations of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar as Foreign Minister for the appointment of a new foreign secretary.
Baloch, a 1991 batch officer of the Pakistan Foreign Service, is going to become the second female federal secretary appointed by the Shahbaz government in a month. Earlier, Ambreen Jan was appointed Information and Broadcasting Secretary this month.
Amna Baloch has held many important positions
Amna Baloch, who holds a postgraduate degree in history, has been Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Malaysia before assuming her current post and prior to that during her career she has held various positions at the headquarters and missions abroad, including the post of Pakistan’s Consul General in Chengdu, China.
