Lucknow: Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma reviewed the situation arising from recent heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh and assessed relief and restoration measures being undertaken in affected areas.
During a meeting with senior officials of the Urban Development and Energy departments, Sharma directed officials to ensure early restoration of civic amenities and complete all necessary arrangements ahead of the upcoming festivals.
Reviewing the Urban Development Department, the minister took stock of waterlogging, drainage, sanitation and measures to prevent communicable diseases in urban areas. He directed officials to give priority to draining stagnant water and immediately undertake cleaning and sanitisation once waterlogging is cleared.
Sharma also called for improved sanitation in urban areas, particularly around religious places, and directed authorities to repair potholes on major roads and ensure adequate lighting, beautification and other public facilities on important routes ahead of the festive season.
During the Energy Department review, Sharma held a virtual meeting with senior officials, including officers of all distribution companies, chief engineers, superintending engineers and executive engineers. He reviewed the condition of power infrastructure affected by heavy rainfall and natural calamities.
The minister said power supply was functioning normally in most parts of the state, but areas facing disruptions due to severe waterlogging or other reasons must receive immediate attention. He directed officials to deploy additional machinery, equipment and manpower and accelerate repair and restoration work.
He also instructed field officials to continuously assess local conditions and maintain close monitoring. Repairs to damaged power lines, transformers and other infrastructure must be carried out swiftly while strictly following electrical safety standards.
“Public convenience must remain the highest priority. Officials must leave no stone unturned in providing relief to people affected by the heavy rainfall,” Sharma said.
Principal Secretary, Urban Development P. Guru Prasad, Principal Secretary, Energy Ranveer Prasad, Secretary/Director, Urban Local Bodies Anuj Kumar Jha, MD UPPCL Nitish Kumar, managing directors of all discoms, and senior and district-level officials from both departments participated in the meeting virtually.
